JAWS License transfer?

I was wondering if it is possible to transfer a JAWS license from one person to another? If so, does anyone have experience with how this is done?

I'm going to be needing to use a laptop in the near future, hopefully, for employment purposes so I went and dug out my copy of JAWS that I had recieved back in 2008, through funding at University. I thought this might make things easier to just get this copy of JAWS updated to the current version 14 with an SMA and all that.... but I have come to find that despite the fact that this license was purchosed for me, the license is in the name of someone at the organisation who dealt with the funding. Is there a way to have the info associated with this license changed over to myself so that I am able to request updates and activation keys or is it a lost cause?

Yes, licenses can be transferred, but it has to be done through Freedom Scientific. I believe there's a 75 dollar fee to transfer it, or at least there was a few years ago. I'd say give them a call. Not only will you need to do that at some point to actually make the license transfer, but they could give more reliable answers to your questions.

Also, when Jaws is purchased for a person, the license is normally in that persons name or associated with them by address. I suspect that is the case for you.

It's not uncommon at all for a product to be registered to an agency or purchaser! I'd call fs customer service and explain that you are the end user and it was purchased by X agency and you should be fine.

I think it's so unfair if FS charges a fee to transfer the licence into someone else's name; I mean, how easy can it be? it's mad!

Many other mainstream software companies do it as well. I had to pay a transfer fee to buy a used copy of Pro tools. It's probably more normal than you realize.
